Texas Zero Tolerance
Texas Zero Tolerance is a Texas-wide group dedicated to reform of disciplinary codes within public education. We adamantly support the concept of safe schools and the need for a strong and proactive discipline policy to assure safety in our schools. But the current discipline system in Texas schools is in need for a drastic overhaul.
We are volunteers; this is not a non-profit organization. We do not accept donations nor are we politically aligned with any one cause. But we do need your help - we need you to email the Legislature now.
We are focused on obtaining two primary goals in the 2007 Texas Legislative Session:
- Immediate parental contact when a child is accused of any infraction that may result in removal from school for at least one day – known as disciplinary placements. Children have the right to protect themselves from incrimination and so parents/guardians must be given the right to be present prior to their child being questioned by law enforcement.
- Once punishment has been determined, there must be a non-biased appeals process to be ultimately decided by the Board of Trustees of the public school district.
Please take the time to browse our website to read about cases that have been reported to us. If you do not know anything about zero tolerance in our schools, these cases will serve as an eye opening experience.
